About the Centre
A result of Czech-Bavarian cooperation in the field of environmental protection, the Alžbětín Information Centre is located in the historical building of the Železná Ruda-Alžbětín/Bayerisch Eisenstein railway station.
The national border between Germany and the Czech Republic runs through the middle of the station building.
Since 2015, Alžbětín IC also serves as an entrance to the NaturparkWelten (Nature Park World) – a complex of exhibitions in the German part of the former border building.
Visiting this part of the building is subject to a fee. The basement hosts the European Bat Centre, other floors are home to the Velký Javor exhibition, the Museum of Skiing, an exhibition about railway construction with a 1:87 scale model railway, introducing this fascinating world to all visitors, young and old.
What we offer
- Information, sale of maps, postcards, tourist guides, specialised publications, and souvenirs. Many information materials are free of charge.
- An exhibition focusing on cross-border protected areas, including a relief map with lighted points.
- Multi-purpose lecture and viewing room.
- We organise public information programmes during the summer as well as winter. These mostly include excursions to the Bavarian visitor centre with animal enclosures, but also guided tours of the historical station building and its exhibitions.
