About the center
The breeding facility for fish has been operated by the Šumava National Park Administration for more than ten years. The activity is dedicated to breeding genetically native species of fish and strengthening their populations.
Based in Borová Lada, the primary activities of the fish hatchery are maintaining and breeding fish species that are native to and desirable for Šumava ecosystems.
This ensures that the fish communities are kept balanced in terms of species and age.
Šumava National Park watercourses contain the following species of fish:
- brown trout
- grayling
- burbot
- minnow
- freshwater sculpin
- brook lamprey
We can be proud
The administration of the national park is dedicated to maintaining and breeding the native Šumava population of brown trouts, specifically the brook form (Salmo trutta morpha fario), and it has been included in the national programme as the owner of genetic resources for two years already.
