About the center
The exhibit chiefly focuses on the forest communities in the national park.
The interpretation panels outline each of the ecosystems, presenting the typical members of the animal and plant kingdoms, the evolution of wood, and the possible adverse effects resulting in the extinction of the community.
The other part covers the transformation of the countryside with the arrival of humans, the history of the territory, the fate of the chapel in Stožec, and the construction of the Schwarzenberg timber floating canal.
Near the centre you can find:
- a geology display dedicated to the southern portion of Šumava;
- an outdoor area with a number of attractions;
- Areál lesních her (Forest Adventure Trail).
What the centre offers
- The centre offers all its guests a display area focusing on Šumava forests, history, and the settlement, as well as the Schwarzenberg timber floating canal, all overlooked by Hubert the Elk and Boženka the Beaver.
- The exhibit includes a 25-seat screening room which offers a range of audiovisual programmes dedicated to nature and history.
- Programmes for the public are held in both the summer and winter seasons.
- In the wintertime, snowshoe treks and creative workshops are available; in summer, there are walks focusing on the local natural world and history.
The centre, including the public toilet, is wheelchair accessible.
